This dream-like vintage menu cover depicts a maiden asleep and being watched over by a cherub while Pierrot, a pantomime character with a whitened face and clown-like costume, looks on with unrequited love. Delicately drawn and with colors that are still beautiful today, the illustrator of this vintage menu artwork is unknown but it was created to celebrate the new year of 1925. Presumably, the guest who also kept the other Berkeley Hotel menu in this collection is one and the same and both were preserved as happy memories of a stay in one of England’s finest hotels.
