British Overseas Airways Corporation was the British state-owned airline created in 1940 by the merger of Imperial Airways and British Airways Ltd.

BOAC launched its premium Monarch Service in 1951 on its London New York route. Six or seven course lunches and dinners were served to passengers in First Class.

Complimentary cigarettes were offered after take-off and after meals. Those were the days!

BOAC was merged with British European Airways (BEA) in 1974 to form British Airways.
