Cocktail Penguins, 1950s
This charming parade of penguins carrying olives, a lemon slice, a maraschino cherry and a stirrer – ingredients for a cocktail – is from the 1950s.
Penguins were often portrayed as cute little bartenders on vintage menu art. With their black and white “suits” they were smartly dressed – and who better to convey the pleasure of a chilled cocktail than penguins?
Cocktail shakers and ice buckets in the shape of penguins were also popular.
This example is from a wrap-a-round glass holder collection.
