Fergus' The Ark, Wilmington, North Carolina 1961

£20.00

This gorgeous menu, dominated by an extremely dapper fish with its top hat and cane, comes from Fergus’ Ark, a floating seafood restaurant which was docked on the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Ark was built in Wilmington in 1922 and was a gambling boat, a troop transporter and a coastguard quarter boat until Eldridge Fergus, a local businessman, bought it and converted it into the restaurant. This menu art is from 1961 and we don’t know who the artist was, but he or she created a beautiful and stylish menu cover. The Ark was moved from its moorings in 1965 and re-opened on dry land. The original boat was sold to a businessman in Florida and served as a floating office until the 1990s.
