Golden Derrick, San Antonio, Texas 1960s

£20.00

Was this the place to go and celebrate when you struck oil in San Antonio, Texas?  This is a simply drawn but strikingly effective menu cover. There is the tower, which contains the machinery for turning the drilling bit around in the hole, and a little prospector's cabin. Since the Golden Derrick restaurant was at the Petroleum Center, we expect this is a bit romanticized but it's fun to think of newly minted oil millionaires coming here and, judging by the interior menu, getting some practice in matching food with wine.
