Golden Slipper Restaurant and Nightclub, Glen Cove, Long Island, 1960s
The Golden Slipper restaurant and nightclub was a fixture on the Long Island nightlife scene, with its heyday being in the 1950s and 1960s. This fabulous menu cover features a golden slipper that is also a champagne glass. The strapline reads "Manhattan Nite Life on Long Island." According to many, the Golden Slipper was favored by colorful characters including some well-known Long Island gangsters. With huge kitchens and banquet rooms, The Golden Slipper was the venue for hundreds of wedding celebrations as well as a date night place. The food was standard stuff of the era. We love the half grapefruit maraschino as an appetizer and there was a limited wine list since people mostly drank hard liquor.
