Silver Streak Zephyr, Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad 1943

Rail car dining used to be a delightful part of many journeys in the United States. Passengers could reserve their tables in the dining car and watch the landscape whiz by while eating hot or cold dishes, washed down with beers or cocktails. Service was provided by helpful attendants in smart uniforms.

The Silver Streak Zephyr was a train service that operated in the American Midwest and which ran from 1940 through 1959. Operated by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, each train had a 24 seat diner in the Parlor Observation Car

The artwork on this vintage menu cover is strikingly simple but effective and the illustration gives the impression of an efficient and speedy train taking passengers to their destination in comfort.
