This vintage menu from the Berkeley Hotel in London depicts a medieval banquet with a lady being waited upon hand and foot as birds fly overhead amid garlands of grape vines. We like the modern touch in the right hand corner, showing a chef in whites tending to meat that is being cooked on a rotisserie. The Berkeley Hotel was, and still is, one of London’s luxury hotels. Bought in 1900 by theatrical impresario Richard D’Oyly Carte, the hotel guest who took this menu as a souvenir in 1924 was probably a wealthy person on a Grand Tour of Europe. It matches another Berkeley Hotel vintage menu in this Culinary Institute of America collection.
